 Enhancing of English language and literature department to a prestigious, scientific and academic department at west zone of Afghanistan through teaching, research and other academic programs.

Mission        

 The department of English language and literature is an innovative, talented and advanced branch of education faculty and its purpose is to train professional and academic staff of the English language to be innovative, responsible and have good practices and experiences in the society. It can be a good service for the community.

Objectives

The objectives of this department, which determine the course of its activities, are as follows:

The Department of English Language and Literature, operating under the Faculty of Education at Farah University, has direct effectiveness and a role within its academic mandate and mission in the following areas:

Education and Enhancement of Students' Language Skills

  • Providing standardized curricula to strengthen listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills for the purpose of training professional English language teachers and specialists.

Training Professional Human Resources for the Education Sector

  • Preparing graduates with the necessary skills for effective English language teaching in schools and educational centers in Farah Province and other provinces of the country.

Providing Scientific and Research Services

  • Conducting scientific research in the fields of English language, literature, and teaching methodology, and encouraging students in research activities.

Collaboration with other departments and sections of the university in the areas of:

The Department of English Language and Literature at the Faculty of Education, Farah University, has a role and effectiveness at the provincial level in the following areas:

Training and Supplying Specialized Human Resources for the Schools of Farah Province

  • Graduates of the department, as professional English language teachers in public and private schools of Farah Province, play an important role in improving the quality of education and training.

Providing Scientific and Consultative Services to Governmental and Non-Governmental Organizations

  • The department collaborates with provincial institutions in the areas of translation, official English writing, language skills assessment, and scientific consultation.

Enhancing the Level of English Literacy in the Community:

    • Through holding courses, workshops, and capacity-building programs for teachers, employees, and youth of the province.

Holding Conferences, Seminars, and Cultural Activities:

    • The department provides the ground for implementing programs that lead to the growth of public awareness, exchange of experiences, and enhancement of the cultural level of the province.

Clear Definition of the Program Graduate (English Language and Literature)

The English Language and Literature program at the Faculty of Education of Farah Institute of Higher Education has been established to train specialized and professional cadres for schools across Afghanistan, English Language and Literature departments in teacher training colleges (Dar-ul-Moallemin), Faculties of Education in the capital and provinces, embassies, foreign and domestic institutions, and audio, visual, and print media. Accordingly, the English Language and Literature program considers an individual who has completed (150-165) credits during a four-year academic period (8 semesters) in the daytime section and a five-year period (10 semesters) in the nighttime section to be a graduate with the following conditions in terms of knowledge, skills, and behavior:

  • I. In the Knowledge Section:

The graduate of the English Language and Literature program should be able to master, at the bachelor's level, subjects such as grammar, different periods of English and world literature history, literary genres (prose and poetry), linguistics, phonology, morphology, writing, conversation, and syntax; and have mastery over the four language skills (listening, speaking, reading, and writing) so they can present themselves as a specialized cadre (English Language and Literature) in society.

  • II. In the Skills Section:

The graduate of the English Language and Literature program is an individual who, in addition to specialization in English, has the necessary familiarity with another foreign language, good management, computer skills, the ability to conduct training programs, etc., and possesses the ability to solve their problems in this area.

  1. In the Behavior Section:

The graduate of the English Language and Literature program is an individual who has learned respect for the country's enforced laws, high academic ethics, patriotism, high Islamic, human, and moral values through the content of their specialized (literature) and professional subjects, and is committed to all these values, free from any form of discrimination and prejudice.
